Welcome to the American Association of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons.

The membership and officers of the American Association of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons (AALOS) would like to welcome you warmly to our organization. ¡Bienvenidos colegas!

AALOS is dedicated as an organization to promote the care of Latino patients by Orthopaedic Surgeons and to promote greater diversity of professionals in our field. Somewhat contrary to what our name connotes, we aim to support both Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons and also those Orthopaedic Surgeons who care for the ever-expanding Latino population.

As an organization we run educational programs and outreach programs to help achieve greater representation of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons in our profession.

As part of our membership, we offer mentorship opportunities for pre-med students, medical students, residents, fellows and younger Orthopaedic Surgeons. This may include test preparation seminars to help our membership on tests such as MCATs, USMLE Step 1 and 2 and ABOS written and Oral Board Exams.

We have plans to offer scholarship opportunities for students and to seek grants to promote research into musculoskeletal and health equity issues related to Latinx populations. Our aim is to increase representation of Latinx individuals in our profession. Consequently, we offer community outreach programs to increase the pipeline of Latinx students interested in Orthopaedic Surgery. AALOS holds an annual luncheon meeting at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting with diverse and dynamic speakers. During that meeting we also honor those who have made significant contributions to our profession. It is an opportunity to get personal with our membership.

We hope that membership in AALOS will be rewarded by expanding your network and by joining those of us that care about increasing diversity in our field.
