Latino Medical Student Association

Greetings Latino Medical Student Association Conference Attendees:

The American Association of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons (AALOS) would like to welcome you warmly to our organization. ¡Bienvenidos colegas!

The AALOS is dedicated to promoting the care of Hispanic and Latinx patients by Orthopaedic Surgeons and to promote greater diversity of professionals in our field. Somewhat contrary to what our name connotes, we aim to support both Latinx Orthopaedic Surgeons and also those Orthopaedic Surgeons who care for the ever-expanding Latinx population.

As an organization we run educational programs and outreach programs to help achieve greater representation of Latinx Orthopaedic Surgeons in our profession. As part of our membership, we offer mentorship opportunities for pre-med students, medical students, residents, fellows and younger Orthopaedic Surgeons. This may include test preparation seminars to help our membership on tests such as MCATs, USMLE Step 1 and 2 and ABOS written and Oral Board Exams.

We plan to offer scholarship opportunities for students and to seek grants to promote research into musculoskeletal and health equity issues related to Latinx populations. Our aim is to increase representation of Hispanic and Latinx individuals in our profession. Consequently, we offer community outreach programs to increase the pipeline of Latinx students interested in Orthopaedic Surgery.

We encourage you to consider joining AALOS. And, for the month of March, if you enter code LMSA when registering, you can sign up for your first year of membership for only $25.

Please be on the lookout for future updates as we expand our offerings for medical students.

We appreciate your interest in AALOS, and hope that we can be a resource to you as you consider a career in orthopaedic surgery.

With Open Arms,

AALOS Officers
